Portion of Berry Hill Connector Road to be Renamed Harville-Saunders Parkway

A portion of the new Berry Hill Connector Road will be named after a former Pittsylvania County supervisor and a current Danville City Council member in recognition of their leadership and contributions to the creation and continued development of the Southern Virginia Megasite at Berry Hill.

The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution naming the new Berry Hill Connector Road the Harville-Saunders Parkway at its August 20, 2024, business meeting.

The Danville City Council approved a resolution in support of the Board’s request for the name by on December 20, 2022.

The Berry Hill Connector Road will serve the Southern Virginia Megasite at Berry Hill, which is owned by the Danville-Pittsylvania Regional Industrial Facilities Authority (RIFA). The County is responsible for having all state-maintained roads named and numbered for emergency services purposes. The connector road is scheduled to open in October.

Coy E. Harville, who passed away on August 9, 2022, served on the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors for 16 years and as chairman for six years. Harville also served as the RIFA chairman and vice chairman, as well as numerous other boards and commissions.

Sherman M. Saunders, who has also served as RIFA chairman and currently serves as vice chairman, has been a member of the Danville City Council for more than 25 years. Saunders has also served on numerous boards and committees, both at the local and state level.

“The Board is pleased to honor these two men for their leadership and vision in helping to create and develop the Megasite, which is one of the largest on the East Coast. By naming the road after Mr. Harville and Mr. Saunders, we provide a permanent tribute to their contributions toward the future economic development of Pittsylvania County and Danville,” said Darrell Dalton, Chairman, Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors.
